Have you heard? Glasgow is one of two cities in Europe to be a participating city partner in the inaugural Smart City Challenge, hosted by Itron – a leading provider of IoT solutions for smart cities.
The application period for Europe’s premier technology accelerator program for smart city innovators is now open. Glasgow, in partnership with Itron, is recruiting technology providers to help solve a key set of business and societal challenges within our community. These challenges have been designed by city leaders with the goal of identifying breakthrough solutions that enhance citizen well-being, while improving operational efficiencies and creating a more resourceful world. The deadline to apply is Jan. 4, 2019.
The Glasgow Challenge:
In Glasgow, we’ve opted to focus on improving travel choices and visitor experiences during events in our city to reduce congestion and continue building the city’s reputation as one of the world’s great destinations for top sporting events, conferences and concerts. This is intended to not only benefit visitors, but also bring substantial improvements to the day-to-day lives of our valued citizens and local businesses alike.
Thousands of people come to the city on a regular basis to experience its year-round calendar of events, which brings vast opportunity, but also presents significant challenges when it comes to safe, convenient and reliable transportation, among other resulting pain points. In order to maintain its position as a top destination and attract new visitors, Glasgow needs to look innovatively at how to better manage the movement of visitors and residents – even during our busiest times – to ensure everyone’s experience is a positive one.
Who We’re Looking For:
We’re in search of technology providers who can leverage Itron’s open IoT platform and developer tools to prototype new smart city solutions. The winning companies will receive product engineering assistance, marketing and promotional support, and an opportunity to deploy their solution in a real-world environment.
We’re confident that you – or someone you know – has what it takes to solve some of Glasgow’s biggest challenges and we look forward to hearing from you!
