Winners of both the Community Wealth Building and Best Performing Small – Medium Business at the Glasgow Business Awards 2024
WEEE (Scotland) Ltd., specialises in the refurbishment, repair and remanufacturing of electrical equipment and machinery. From a start-up recycling business on a vacant site in Govan, WEEE Scotland has grown over the past 10 years to deliver a market leading service which is progressing the transition to a circular economy for businesses across the UK. The services are adaptable to any sector and all types of machinery and can extend the life cycle of individual components or the asset as a whole. The business has demonstrated sustained growth and has more than doubled its workforce and increased turnover by around 74% in the past 2 years. Through investment in their people and infrastructure of the business, WEEE Scotland has opened doors to new markets and new services which all align with their main objective, which is to use expertise and innovation to extend the lifecycle of electronic equipment and machinery, to support a circular economy. The business has created a blueprint for services that can deliver significant value to clients and make positive environmental and economic impact. This has been endorsed by a key blue-chip client, Costa Coffee, who outline in their corporate website, the difference WEEE Scotland are making to their sustainability and environmental commitments.
Growth & Support -
Since its inception, WEEE Scotland has provided accessible jobs for the people of Govan and the wider area. From its starting point of one member of staff, to employing around 60 staff at present. The business is also projected to create an additional 10 jobs over the next 12 months and more staff will be employed thereafter. WEEE Scotland is committed to building a business that gives back to the local community and provides opportunities for local people, many of whom live in areas of multiple deprivation and have experienced challenges in accessing full-time, quality employment. The business has received Living Wage accreditations and strives to constantly improve through their Fair Work Strategy. At the 2024 Glasgow Business Awards (GBA), they were recognised for their dedication towards bettering the local community by their success in achieving both the Community Wealth Building and Best Performing Small-Medium Business awards.
WEEE Scotland has been supported with successful applications to the Extend Plus Programme, Green Business Support Programme, Glasgow Business Growth Programme (to support Growth, Financial Management and Sustainability) and the Step Up to Net Zero Programme funded by Glasgow City Council’s Economic Development through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and has been introduced to the Financial Readiness Team at Scottish Enterprise. WEEE Scotland is now being supported to apply for investment, to allow the business to undertake an expansion programme, to provide their service to more blue-chip organisations and meet the growth aspirations of the business.
