Following several months of negotiations, Glasgow based chip designer, West Coast Semi Design Ltd, has secured a strategic partnering deal with Desay Microelectronics Technology Ltd of China, that will create a new Research & Development Centre in Glasgow.
John Gough, WCSD’s Managing Director, has confirmed the Centre will deliver best-in-class power management IP and integrated solutions for mobile, industrial and automotive markets.
Desay, a £2bn industrial corporation headquartered in Shenzhen, will fully fund the project and WCSD has the green light to build a team of experienced power management professionals to support the requirements of Desay’s group companies in China.
Desay’s CEO, Mr Chen Zhong , confirmed that we are delighted to have formed a partnership in Scotland with WCSD and we are looking forward to developing our long-term strategic relationship and building design capability in Glasgow.
Gough, a veteran of the sector having worked for National Semiconductor and Texas Instruments for 30 years, is excited about realising an ambition and growing a new business. He is confident that the challenge of developing the next generation of power management ICs for mobile, industrial and automotive market in China and a rare opportunity to shape the development and growth of WCSD will attract talented and ambitious power management chip design engineers.
He is also very appreciative of the business support infrastructure in Glasgow. Working in big corporates there’s always support functions you can lean on. In a start-up, you feel exposed and having regular access to sound advice and support from Glasgow City Council, Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise has accelerated the process and helped make the project happen.
West Coast Semi Design Ltd is an early start business specialising in the design and development of high-performance IP for mobile and automotive applications. The project will grow WCSD team to 40 development staff.
