GCU Enterprise Festival to help turn business ideas into reality

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is hosting an Enterprise Festival for students, staff and graduates of the University, to help turn their business ideas into reality. Business Glasgow will have a stand at this event showcasing the support available from our team including Business Gateway support as well as the Glasgow Guarantee.

Organised by UHatch, GCU’s dedicated business accelerator, the Enterprise Festival offers opportunities for participants to see how fledging ideas can become functioning businesses.

The event will feature some of the successful entrepreneurs to have used UHatch support, plus a host of national and local support agencies such as SIE, Santander, Enterprise Campus and Glasgow City Council, which will be on hand to offer free advice and insights into setting up a new business.

UHatch success stories include Stephen Chalmers’ Altogether Travel, a holiday provider which helps older people or those with some form of disability to travel. Jordan Reid and Grant McAdam are recent graduates who formed Ngage Technology and specialise in delivering a high functional digital service for the hospitality industry. Connor McQueen Johnston and Nicholas Metcalfe are graduates who formed Dalriada Games, a pioneering company committed to immersive and exciting gameplay whilst focusing on the integration within the Medical and Education sectors.

A new business to come from UHatch is UniJobApp, an application and website dedicated to helping students and graduates find relevant internships, work placements, and full-time jobs. Childhood friends Lewis Pour, an Advanced Internetwork Engineering Masters student at GCU, and Zane Powell, a second-year Law student at the University of Dundee, will launch their app in April.

Professor Bruce Wood, the academic lead for UHatch, said: “The Enterprise Festival brings together the most comprehensive collection of the support agencies, including UHatch, and some of GCU’s start-up companies for one day of networking. The Festival is a unique opportunity for early stage informal discussions about the support available for individuals with ideas to convert them into actions leading towards commercial reality. The event worked well last year and will be even better this year.”

The Festival will take place on Wednesday, February 22, between 12pm and 3pm in the Campus Life Lounge of the George Moore building.
