WHAT WE OFFER
Our team of experienced Business Advisors work with you to develop your ideas; from understanding the legalities of setting up a company, to developing your business model, financial projections and business plans. Our advisors can act as your sounding board, providing an external and objective view of your business, as well as a connector to other sources of information and support. Our support is always bespoke to you.
Topics we specialise in include:
We can support you to review your governance structures to understand your strengths, weaknesses and areas for development. This may include a skills audit, exploration of risk appetite, establishment of a new board, recruitment of new board members and/or board training. All support will be focused on future proofing the business i.e. what needs to be in place to deliver on your strategic plans.
We can support you to reflect on your current organisational structure, and consider and plan a structure fit for your future growth plans. Where changes to your organisational structure are required, we can help you to identify alternative structures and their advantages, disadvantages, and implications (e.g. for access to social finance), and support you to develop a plan to manage the change.
As the host of the Scotland Can B programme, we are uniquely placed to support you to measure, benchmark, improve and communicate your social and environmental impact. Using tools such as the B Impact Assessment (BIA), we can support you to explore your impact on areas including your staff, community, governance, customers and the environment. If you have ambitions to formally embed impact in your business structure, we can support you through every step of this journey e.g. by becoming a social enterprise or an accredited BCorps.
Our vision is for social enterprises and mission-driven business to play a key role in society, transforming lives, communities and the economy. This is what we work towards every day- helping more social entrepreneurs to start and grow their business, and make a difference to the lives of people in Glasgow, Scotland and beyond.
Our passion comes from seeing the massive social and environmental impact achieved by the businesses we support. Some of our alumni include Locavore, Blankfaces, Social Bite, Scottish Design Exchange, Lingo Flamingo, Homes for Good and many more.
Kirstie Campbell, Founder of Seabuckthorn Scotland CIC, said: “I have been so incredibly grateful for all of Firstport’s tremendous insight, support, wisdom and encouragement which has kept me going despite the many hurdles involved with setting up a new business from scratch”.
